Please practise spellings and times tables every night. 
Please read every night.  Read aloud whenever you get the chance.
 
Multiplication tables tests: Thursday
Spellings test: Friday morning.
 
English / Maths homework given on Fridays to be in by the following Friday.
Optional Education City Maths homework set on Friday which will be based on the following week's topic.
 
Swimming 
Y5 swimming lessons take place on a Wednesday.


Goggles

  •  During swimming lessons goggles should only be worn in exceptional circumstances.
  •  It may be helpful to read the local authority guidance
     If parents/carers believe their child requires goggles please      collect a disclaimer proforma from the school office.

 

 

Topics

 

Autumn

In Science this term we're learning about the solar system and will be visiting the Liverpool Spaceport in October!

 

In English we've started looking at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and will move onto work based around our Liverpool trip and our Space topic.

 

We have also been looking at how to write a narrative to accompany different films. See below to view an example of a narrative to accompany the film 'The Piano'.

 

In Maths, we have been looking for patterns that we can find using methods like subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. See below for an example.

 

 

Spring

In Science this term we're learning about forces including gravity, air resistance and buoyancy.

 

In English Spring 1 we read 'Goodnight Mr Tom' and analysed WW1 poetry. We have also been looking at how to write a narrative to accompany different films. See below to view an example of a narraitive to accompany the film 'The Piano'.

Preparing for High School

In preparation for going up to high school, we visited Chesterton High, where we had taster sessions in what lessons and life would be like. We experienced lessons like PE, Computer Science, Spanish, Science and History. See photos below.
