Assessment

Rationale

Our assessment system for reading, writing and mathematics has been carefully developed to match the much higher expectations of the current curriculum. It is an evidence based system that is designed to demonstrate where pupils have understood and mastered key curriculum milestones.

It is also a tool to support teaching and learning so that teachers can ensure all pupils make good progress. This may be used to target filling gaps, catching up, deepening understanding and overcoming barriers to learning.

Assessment evidence sheets                                                                                                  These are located in the front of children’s books. They reflect the key skills for each subject and key performance indicators of the curriculum.

(See examples below)

Staff complete these when they find good evidence of pupils applying the key skills in their work, Evidence is based on application of skills not coverage and these skills must be evident on several occasions to be achieved.

There is no room for ‘almost’ or ‘sometimes’ within a rigorous system.

Please open the assessment guide below for further details of our system, including how we convert our attainment and progress measures to a judgement on Age Related Expectations.

Your child’s class teacher will be happy to help should you have any queries about their assessment.
